Hola y bienvenidos!

My name is Ms. Massaro and I will be your child's Spanish teacher this year. I graduated from The College of New Jersey with a degree in Elementary Education and Spanish as a dual major. I am currently finishing up my Masters Degree at TCNJ in Teaching English as a Second Language. I began to study Spanish in middle school and continued to study it in college because of a trip to Costa Rica organized by my high school Spanish teacher that ignited a passion for the language and the culture. During my undergraduate experience, I was fortunate enough to live in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid for a semester. I lived with an amazing host family, visited 10 different Spanish cities and  learned so much about the Spanish language and culture throughout my time there.  Since then, I taught fourth grade bilingual education where I taught native Spanish speakers fourth grade content in both Spanish and English while helping them gain proficiency in the English language. I learned so much about Central and South American culture through my time working with these students. This website will be a portal for general information, at home practice, study materials, and information about what your child will be learning in Spanish class. I look forward to the upcoming year and hope to work together to help your children become immersed in the Spanish language and culture!

Fun Fact:

A phrase heavily utilized in the Costa Rican culture is "pura vida" which translates to "pure life." This phrase embodies the Costa Rican mentality and relaxed nature. The phrase can be used to say hello, goodbye, or to brush off negativity.

This is an active volcano in Costa Rica called Poas Volcano.

Fun Facts: Spain

This is the Plaza de Cervantes which is found in the city of Alcala de Henares, Madrid. This is the city where I lived in Spain and I walked through this plaza every day.

Fun Fact:

Every Spanish city has its own plaza, which is like the town square. These plazas were seen as a central gathering space. Plaza de Cervantes got its name because Alcala de Henares is the birth place of Miguel de Cervantes, a very famous Spanish author. You may recognize the name of his novel Don Quijote.

Can you find la cigüeña in this photo?
